Nansana police arrested a group of 44 people for organizing and attending a gay wedding.
According to Luke Owoyesigyire, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, police were told on Monday that a group of men suspected of being gay was organizing a wedding in Area 780, in the Ochen district of the city of Nansana.
“A team of police immediately attended the scene, and several men and women were caught performing a ceremony that appeared to be a wedding. All the men were made up, and some were dressed as women and wore wigs, ”said Owoyesigyire as quoted by local media.
“On the stage, gifts were seized, including suitcases, a television, sugar, salt, pineapples and many other things usually given in traditional wedding ceremonies. ”
The Kampala police spokesperson noted that condoms were also found at the scene.
Criminal Investigations Division spokesman Charles Twine then said the group would be charged with committing an act of negligence that could spread an infectious disease.
