Forty stampede kills 40 on pilgrimage to Israel.

The night of Thursday, April 29-30, will remain a dark moment for Israel. Indeed the sacred Orthodox Jewish pilgrimage, the largest authorized gathering in Israel since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, turned into chaos with a massive stampede at Mount Meron in northern Israel, which caused death. Approximately 44 people and injured more than 150.

The stampede would have taken place when part of the pilgrims ventured onto a small passage. Passage on which they started to fall when they were going down the stairs. A rescuer on the spot even claimed to have seen men being trampled and crushed.

Dozens of ambulances were dispatched to the accident scene, and rescuers evacuated the bodies and the wounded. After midnight, there are also Six helicopters and medical teams that have been deployed to evacuate the injured to hospitals in Safed and Nahariya.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who visited the scene of the tragedy at the end of the morning, called the disaster one of the most serious in his country. He decreed Sunday, the national day of mourning.

It should be remembered that this religious event, which brought together nearly 250,000 pilgrims in 2019, was canceled last year due to health restrictions linked to the coronavirus.
