Government data showed that Covid-19 disease, caused by the emerging corona virus, was the third leading cause of death in the United States, last year, after heart disease and cancer, while suicide came out of the list of the 10 main causes.
In “preliminary” data issued by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of the Ministry of Health, the causes of death were in the following order: heart disease, cancer, Covid-19, unintended injuries, stroke, and chronic lower respiratory diseases. Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, influenza, pneumonia, and kidney disease.
And researchers from the National Center for Health Statistics wrote in the study published by “CDC” that Covid-19 has replaced suicide as one of the top 10 leading causes of death in the United States.
Suicide was previously the tenth cause, but it was removed from the list this year with the increase in deaths due to Corona.
The overall death rate increased by 15.9 percent in 2020 from the previous year, from 715.2 to 828.7 deaths per 100,000 people.
In total, about 3.36 million people died, of whom about 378,000 died of Covid-19, which is 11.3%, while heart disease caused the death of about 690,000 people, and cancer killed 598,000 people.
