Russian Daniel Medvedev reached his second final in the Grand Slam tennis tournament by defeating Greece’s Stephanos Tsitsipas, 6-4, 6-2, 7-5 in the Australian’s semi-finals Championship on Friday.

The Russian, who was competing in the semi-finals for the first time in Australia, deprived Tsitsipas of reaching the first major final in his career and ended the Greek’s career in the round of four, which the 22-year-old had previously fought twice in Australia in 2019, and Roland Garros in 2020.

Medvedev, who previously reached the final of “Flushing Meadows” 2019 (losing to Spain’s Rafael Nadal), will meet the defending champion, the world number one, Novak Djokovic, who is looking for his ninth coronation in Australia and 18th in the Grand Slam.

Djokovic will be the last obstacle to Medvedev’s dream of following Yevgeny Kafelnikov’s footsteps (he was crowned Roland Garros in 1996 and Australia in 1999) and Marat Safin (Flushing Meadows in 2000 and Australia in 2005), the only two Russians to have won major titles.

The Russian star, Daniel Medvedev, ranked fourth in the world, hopes to repeat the scenario of his last confrontation with Djokovic, when he defeated the Serbian in the group stage of the final “Masters” tournament last November, on his way to the most crucial title in his career so far.
