The US State Department announced that Washington would exert “great pressure” on the military who seized power in Myanmar.

“As the protests grow, Myanmar’s military leaders must know that we will not tolerate violence against those who defend their democratic rights by peaceful means,” State Department spokesman Ned Price said during a press conference.

Yesterday evening, US President Joe Biden announced sanctions against the military coup leaders in Myanmar, calling for the immediate release of Prime Minister Aung San Suu Kyi.

Biden said: “Washington will set the first set of targets this week, and impose strict controls on exports and will be ready to impose additional measures.”
