Life is not as simple as we think it is; sometimes, awkward situations arise and leave us off guard, forcing us to hide from others.
This is the story of a woman who spent years hiding from people because she was ashamed of her legs’ size.
Monique Samuels of Atlanta, USA, had suffered on her own since being diagnosed with lymphedema at age 12.
Also known as lymphatic obstruction, it causes excess fluid to build up in body tissue and causes the legs to swell.
The 35-year-old student has joint pain and skin infections that have left her hospitalized. To try to fight against these problems, Monique went under the knife 10 times (operation).
She regularly undertakes manual lymphatic drainage therapy, but unfortunately, there is no cure for her condition.
“When I was 12, I sprained my ankle, and soon after, my right foot and leg started to swell.
After going to several hospitals, I was referred to the Lerner lymphedema center by an emergency room resident. It was there that I was diagnosed after about six months of hospitalization.
I was aware of my appearance once the disease developed, no one was ever mean to me, but the looks of people in public annoyed me. ”
Monique used to hide because of her condition.
