A mighty explosion occurred on Wednesday, January 20, in the center of the Spanish capital. The huge explosion even threw rubble tens of meters into the streets surrounding the building.
A first assessment, given by the mayor of the city, José Luis Martínez Almeida, reports two dead and six injured.

According to José Luis Martínez Almeida, the mayor of the city, the explosion, believed to have originated from a gas leak, left at least two dead and several injured.

The now collapsed building was a parish center that provided meals to the homeless. It houses, among other things, offices, a reception center, meeting rooms, and three lodgings for priests.

The building, where smoke is rising, adjoins a retirement home and is near a school.

Firefighters and emergency services immediately went to the scene. As for the police, they quickly cordoned off the street.
