A mighty explosion occurred on Wednesday, January 20, in the center of the Spanish capital. The huge explosion even threw rubble tens of meters into the streets surrounding the building.

A first assessment, given by the mayor of the city, José Luis Martínez Almeida, reports two dead and six injured.

On Wednesday, January 20, around 3 p.m., a huge explosion ravaged a building in downtown Madrid. The images of the damage are impressive.

According to José Luis Martínez Almeida, the mayor of the city, the explosion, believed to have originated from a gas leak, left at least two dead and several injured.

The now collapsed building was a parish center that provided meals to the homeless. It houses, among other things, offices, a reception center, meeting rooms, and three lodgings for priests.

The building, where smoke is rising, adjoins a retirement home and is near a school.

Firefighters and emergency services immediately went to the scene. As for the police, they quickly cordoned off the street.
