US Republican Senator Pat Tommy said that President Donald Trump should resign due to his supporters stormed the Congress headquarters last Wednesday.
Tommy, who represents Pennsylvania in the Senate, said in an interview with NBC television: “I think the best course for our country is for the president to resign and leave as soon as possible.”
He continued, “I admit that this may be unlikely, but I think it will be the best option.”
In an interview with “Fox News” on Saturday, Tommy had said that Trump had committed violations “that deserve his removal from office.”
Simultaneously, the senator indicated that he is not sure whether the Senate will take any steps in this path, especially since Trump’s term ends after only 11 days.
He also expressed concern about the possibility of politicizing the impeachment measures that the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives intends to launch next Monday against Trump.
