A disease control official in China said that there is no evidence that new Coronavirus strains will affect the effectiveness of the vaccine against the mother strain of Corona, which China approved yesterday for public use.
“There is no reason to panic,” the official with the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Xu Weibo, told state television.
He added, “The mutated strain, compared to the previous mutated strains, does not carry any clear change so far in its ability to cause disease.”
He said that no effect of strains on the efficacy of vaccination was observed.
China granted a license to a vaccine produced by a unit of the state-backed “Sinopharm” company, a day after news of the first case of a strain circulating in Britain, for a person coming from abroad.
