Wrestling is popular in Russia’s North Caucasus region, including Kabardino-Balkaria, Chechnya, and Dagestan.

It is noteworthy that the Republic of “Kabardino – Balkaria” is in the North Caucasus in the Terek River Basin on the northern ends of the Caucasus Mountains, and is bordered to the north by Stavropol Krai, to the east by North Ossetia, south to Georgia and to the west by Karachay-Circassia.

Although forests surround a large part of the country, the northern part is a wide, arid plain. The presence of the Balkars is concentrated primarily in the valleys through which the rivers of the Paksan, Chegem, and Terek rivers pass east of Karachay.

As for the area of the Republic, it is 12,500 km2.
