Real Madrid announced today, Tuesday, the return of its former lair protector, Iker Casillas, to assume the Royal Club Foundation’s CEO.
In an official statement, Real Madrid said: “We announce the joining of Iker Casillas to Real Madrid, to act as deputy executive director of the club’s foundation.”
“Casillas is one of Real Madrid’s legends, and he represents the values of our club and the best goalkeeper in our history. It is a pride for us to see one of our great team leaders return to the royal house.”
And he continued: “Casillas has won 19 titles in 25 years in which he defended our shirt, including 3 Champions League titles, the Club World Cup, the European Super Cup twice, the Spanish League 5 championship, the King’s Cup twice, and 4 Spanish Super Cups.”
In Portugal, Casillas won twice the league title with Porto and once, the Cup and the Portuguese Super Cup.
Casillas commented on his return “with a tweet” through his Twitter account: “I am proud to return to my home. I face this new challenge with all desire and enthusiasm. Thank you for the welcome!”
Former international goalkeeper Iker Casillas (167 international matches), the 2010 and European champion in 2008 and 2012, with the Spanish national team, returns to the royal club 5 years after his departure to end his football career with FC Porto, where he was forced to retire on the fourth of Last August, at the age of 39, after suffering a heart attack in a training session in early May 2019.
