America accepts the entry of Sudanese officials into its territories

The US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, issued a decree canceling Presidential Proclamation 6958, which prohibited the entry of Sudanese civilian and military officials into the United States.

In a statement, Pompeo said: “under Article 5 of Presidential Proclamation No. 6958 of November 22, 1996, we deemed that the suspension of entry into the United States of members or officials of the Government of Sudan and of the Sudanese Armed Forces is no longer necessary and should be terminated, given the termination of the restrictions in Security Council Resolutions No. 1054 and 1070, and the major shift in US foreign policy towards Khartoum after the formation of the new Sudanese transitional government with civilian leadership.

The restrictions were imposed in 1996 on the entry of Sudanese officials, whether civilians or military, to the United States under UN Security Council resolutions and international sanctions on Sudan.
