Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, condemned the US sanctions on Turkey, noting that they represent “contempt for international law.”

Zarif said in a tweet on “Twitter” that the United States has been addicted to the use of sanctions and “contempt for international law” and that his country stands with Turkey and its people against these sanctions.

On Monday, the US Treasury announced the imposition of sanctions on the Turkish Defense Industries Administration and its head, Ismail Demir. At the same time, Turkey considered these sanctions a “grave mistake,” and Russia said they were “illegal.”

The sanctions affected 3 other individuals associated with the Turkish Defense Industries Administration, according to a statement by the US Treasury.

The sanctions come after Washington revealed its intention to impose Ankara sanctions after it bought the Russian S-400 missile defense system.
