Young coach Eden Tercic started his career with Borussia Dortmund with a 2-1 away win at Werder Bremen Stadium in the 12th round of the German League.

At the Fisier Stadion Stadium, Portuguese Rafael Guerrero led Dortmund’s goal in the 12th minute, but Kevin Mohwald leveled Bremen in the 28th minute.

Skipper Marco Reus sealed the victory for Dortmund with a goal he scored 11 minutes from time.

The victory raised Dortmund’s balance to 22 points in fourth place, 3 points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen, and two points behind Bayern Munich and Leipzig, while Bremen’s balance stopped at 11 points in thirteenth place.

Bayern will meet at home to Wolfsburg on Wednesday, while Leipzig will meet host Hoffenheim and Leverkusen with host Colin.

Dortmund returned to the winning streak after a period of confusion, losing 3 in a row at home and winning only once in the last 5 matches.

Dortmund coach Lucien Favre paid a heavy price by dismissing him from his post, just 24 hours after the team’s humiliating defeat at Stuttgart’s hands, with five goals for Saturday’s goal.

Favre took over Dortmund in the summer of 2018, but despite his 15-game career unbeaten at the start of his career with the team to top the table, 9 points ahead of his closest chasers, he failed to keep pace with Bayern Munich, who won the title on the last day of that season.

Favre also failed to lead Dortmund to win the German Cup as the team was knocked out of the third round twice under the Swiss coach’s leadership.

Past glories

Dortmund sought help from Tertsic, 38, after he worked as an assistant to Wafer.

In his first lecture with the players, Tercic called on his team to remember the successes of the past, saying: “We have shown a lot of good things in the past, and we should remember a lot of things that we have to keep.”

The session was enthusiastic and emotional, in which he said: “I have been cheering for Dortmund my whole life, and now I have had the opportunity to coach the team. It is an incredible situation. I came to the stadium for the first time when I was nine years old.”

He emphasized that he had never dreamed of being in this position, adding: “It is exceptional to wake up in the morning and think about the black and yellow team.”

When the intention is to sign a new coach for the next season, Tercic has an opportunity to consolidate his feet in the position, as his contract will initially last until the summer of 2021.
