America: Expectations of the selection of the former Michigan governor as energy minister
Washington – (Reuters):
According to two people familiar with the decision, President-elect Joe Biden is expected to choose ex-Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm as Energy Secretary.
Granholm, 61, was Michigan’s first female governor, and she worked with Biden, who was Vice President Barack Obama’s vice president, in bailing out car manufacturers in 2009 after the global crisis.
Despite some auto workers’ concerns, Granholm has supported efforts to build advanced battery plants for electric cars in the state.
If confirmed, Granholm is expected to promote advanced batteries and electric cars, energy efficiency, and electricity generation from renewable and nuclear energy.
