Trump signs a bill to avert the government shutdown
US President Donald Trump signed a bill to extend for one week the expired federal funding, to avoid government closures, and to give more opportunity for separate talks on mitigating the effects of the “Covid-19” pandemic and a comprehensive spending bill.
The Republican-led Senate approved the bill Friday afternoon, after the House of Representatives, which is mostly Democratic, approved this measure by an overwhelming majority, Wednesday.
Without this law, a series of government programs, including some airport and national park operations, and State Department activities would face partial closure.
