When you are an artist, any medium can become a vehicle for expressing yourself. But as in every field, only for improvement, some specialize in a specific topic. This is the case of Andoni Bastarrika, a former master in the art of handling sand.
If most of us consider ourselves proud of a poor little castle by the time we return to childhood, then this artist’s work is impressive. He often deals with animals, which he brings to life in a sandy and very realistic version. This is what he prefers to do and how he became a reference in the industry.
It all started in 2010 when he went to the beach with his two daughters. At the time, his first sand statue was the Little Mermaid. From an artistic point of view, this is not a huge success, but it allows him to realize what he calls his gift: his hands’ fluidity. “It feels like they know what they’re doing. I have made sure to develop this gift and have spent the last 10 years making sand sculptures,” Andoni Bastarica captivated. Like what, we can discover a passion without necessarily anticipating it.
He added on his personal Facebook page, “The sand fascinates me because no matter what angle you look at it, it always teaches you. When it comes to creating a statue, countless particles flow in, sticking together with moisture. Once the work is done, It returns to nature and consumes itself more or less slowly depending on winds and tides. ”
Below, you will discover some of the self-made artist’s most beautiful achievements. Whether they represent a dog, a cow, a shark, an elephant, a crocodile, a turtle, or a dolphin, most actions are a true tribute to nature.
