US House of Representatives passes bill to lift federal penalties on marijuana


On Friday, the US House of Representatives passed a landmark bill that would end the federal ban on marijuana and lift many of the penalties related to this cannabis.

The bill was passed by 228 votes to 164, with nearly all Democratic lawmakers supporting it, and 5 Republicans.

The bill would erase some federal criminal records related to marijuana, launch programs for people or communities affected by drug abuse charges, and regulate and tax cannabis production.

American media ruled out that the Senate would approve the bill.
