According to news agencies, the authorities in Moscow have arrested a physicist on suspicion of allegedly leaking classified information on the Russian aviation sector abroad.
A Moscow court issued an order to detain Anatoly Zhubanov, who works at the Central Hydro-Aerodynamics Institute, for two months pending his trial.
Russian news agencies said that his lawyer declined to comment on the case, while Reuters could not reach him, and the court did not respond to a request for comment.
If found guilty of state treason, Zhubanov could be imprisoned for up to 20 years, although details of the charges are unlikely to be made public, given the usual secret of treason cases.
Russia sentenced a man to 13 years in prison for trying to pass military secrets to the United States last month. In October it detained a soldier and his brother, accused of leaking state secrets to Estonia.
