Brazilian legend Ronaldo Nazario opened up about his relationship with the legendary Diego Maradona, who died at the age of 60 from cardiac arrest, revealing that he would be “eternally grateful” for the inspiration given to him, the late Argentinian.
Several high profile personalities worldwide have paid tribute to Maradona over the past week. He was arguably one of the greatest players ever to put on a pair of boots.
Ronaldo, who is currently president of the Spanish club Real Valladolid, has expressed his sadness at the death of a man who has captivated the whole world with his exploits on the football field.
“Diego left an incredible legacy in football. His loss is tough to bear. The news took me by surprise and left me very sad.
I want to send my love to his family. He has changed the lives of many people, and I always will. Be eternally grateful for the inspiration he gave me, ”he said at a press conference on Tuesday.

The former Barcelona and Real Madrid star also explained why Maradona got into the habit of wearing two watches, one on each wrist.
One of the first times he came to visit me in Madrid, we had dinner. Diego brought two watches, and legend said he wasn’t going anywhere without both.
I asked him why he was wearing two, and he said his daughter gave them to him as a gift, and since then, he has never taken them off.
“At the end of the meal, he took one off and gave it to me as a gift. I didn’t want to accept it, but he got angry, and I had no choice.
I will take care of it for the rest of my life as a reminder of his generosity and his friendship, ”he concluded.
The football legend was laid to rest last Friday.
Still, a new controversy has arisen around his death after police searched his doctor’s home to establish whether the code had been medically neglected.
