The Indonesian authorities deserted thousands of people in dozens of villages, after a new eruption of the Lyotolok volcano, in the country’s east.

And the new eruption in the volcano sent a column of smoke and ash 4 km into the sky.

Radici Jati, a spokesperson for the Agency for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Risk Mitigation, announced the evacuation of 2,800 people from 28 villages on the slopes of the volcano.

He stressed that no casualties or injuries were recorded because of the volcanic explosion.

The Indonesian Ministry of Transport warned against flying in the volcano region, noting the closure of many local airports in the region, because of the intense dispersal of ash.

The Lyotolok volcano also erupted on 27 November.

Indonesia is on the “Ring of Fire” in the Pacific Ocean, where tectonic plates converge and their friction causes frequent seismic and volcanic activities.
