US President Donald Trump said on Monday he had given Public Services chief Emily Murphy the green light to proceed with handing over power to the administration of President-elect Joe Biden, despite his plans to continue to file legal claims.
“I would like to thank Emily Murphy from the Department of Public Services for her commitment and dedication to our country,” he said in a tweet. (Emily) has been harassed, threatened, and abused, and I don’t want to see it happen to her, her family, or her employees at the General Services Department. ”
“Our case is moving forward strongly and we will continue the fight … I think we will win, but for the sake of our country, I recommend that Emily and her team do what needs to be done regarding the initial protocols and I asked my team to do the same.”
However, Emily responded to Trump‘s statement, stressing that the decision to allow the start of the presidential transition to Democrat Joe Biden was “her decision alone.”
I want you to hear directly from me,” Murphy said in a letter. “I have never been pressured before about the substance or timing of my decision.” The decision was the only one.
She added, “I have not subjected me to direct or indirect pressure from any official in the executive authority, including those in the White House or the General Services Department, to delay or speed up this step.”
The Biden team welcomed Trump’s decision, which provides for a smooth transition of power
