Biden intends to nominate Antony Blinken for the position of Secretary of State

Several US media outlets reported Sunday that US President-elect Joe Biden plans to nominate diplomat Anthony Blinken for the position of Secretary of State.

Blinken (58 years) is one of Biden’s main foreign policy advisers and was the second official in the US State Department under former President Barack Obama when Biden was running at the time as Vice President.

According to the “New York Times” and “Bloomberg” agency, the president-elect plans to announce Blinken’s candidacy for the position of the foreign minister on Tuesday.

Blinken is a staunch supporter of pluralism, and, if appointed, he will succeed current Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who supports the “maximum pressure campaign” on Iran and an uncompromising policy toward China.
