The volunteers who received the Pfizer vaccine for the Coronavirus said that it left them with side effects that seemed to be similar to “severe drunkenness,” according to a new report.
Reports of side effects resulting from the vaccine, which has been proven safe so far, come days after Pfizer and its German partner Biotech announced that the vaccination was 90 percent effective in preventing the Coronavirus, as drug companies are expected to request a US license to use it in cases Emergency”.
More than 43,500 volunteers from six countries were not informed whether they had received the vaccine or a placebo during the trials.
However, some volunteers were reported to have said they were able to realize that they had received the vaccine due to some side effects such as headache and muscle pain.
According to Glenn Deshields, 44, of Austin, Texas, the vaccine side effects were similar to “severe hangover headaches,” but they disappeared quickly.
An antibody test that Deschilds later showed he had developed antibodies to the virus convinced him that he had received the real vaccine.
Another volunteer, a 45-year-old woman from Missouri known as Carrie, said she had suffered from a fever, headache, and body aches after receiving her first injection. She compared with a flu shot, with flu-like side effects, but was more severe when receiving her second injection.
Dr. Albert Burla, Chairman and CEO of Pfizer, said in a statement on Monday regarding the effectiveness of the vaccine: “Today is a great day for science and humanity. The first set of results from the third stage vaccine trial, Covid 19, provides preliminary evidence of our vaccine’s ability to prevent Corona. ”
“We have reached this critical milestone in our vaccine development program at a time the world needs more than ever, with infection rates setting new records, hospitals nearing capacity, and economies struggling to reopen. We are approaching an important step towards supplying people. Around the world, with a much-needed achievement to help end this global health crisis. We look forward to sharing additional efficacy and safety data generated by thousands of participants in the coming weeks. ”
And so far, there are still unresolved questions about the effectiveness of the vaccine by age and race, and the extent to which immunity persists, according to Reuters reports.
