Erdogan announces that the death toll from the Izmir earthquake has risen to 58

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that the number of victims of the earthquake that struck Izmir, Friday, has risen to 58 and 896 injured.This came in a speech he gave on Sunday at a conference of the Justice and Development Party, in the northern Turkish state of Samsun.

Erdogan renewed his wishes for safety for the people of Izmir against the background of the earthquake, wishing mercy from God to the victims and a speedy recovery for the wounded.

He also renewed his pledge to the government to build new homes for citizens whose homes were destroyed by the earthquake as soon as possible.

He stressed that all relevant ministries and institutions are doing all that is necessary through their teams in the disaster area.

Erdogan added, “We are determined to heal the wounds of our brothers, the people of Izmir, who were affected by the earthquake, before the cold and rain sets in.”

On Saturday, President Erdogan announced that the government would build new homes for citizens after the earthquake in Izmir destroyed whose homes.

On Friday, an earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale occurred off the coast of the “Safari Hissar” district in Izmir, western Turkey.
