Liverpool, the English Premier League champion, announced, on Tuesday, that its newly-joined star, Thiago Alcantara, had been infected with the new Coronavirus.
Alcantara, who recently moved from Bayern Munich to Liverpool, participated with his new team in one match against Chelsea in the domestic league, during which he presented an outstanding performance.
But the 29-year-old Spaniard missed his team’s ranks against Arsenal, on Monday, in the match in which Liverpool won 3-1, while Jurgen Klopp, the team’s coach, confirmed that he would miss two other meetings, due to an “injury” without specifying its nature.
The Spain star showed initial symptoms of “COVID 19”, but he is in good condition, according to the club’s statement.
Liverpool explained: “Thiago’s analysis gave a positive result for COVID 19, and he is now in a period of self-isolation according to the followed instructions. The club has been and will continue to follow the matter.”
He continued, “Thiago will remain in isolation for the required period.”
