The Spanish newspaper “AS” said that the Dutchman, Ronald Koeman, arrived, on Tuesday, in Barcelona, in preparation for the completion of negotiations with the Catalan team and the signing of the contract.
The source said that the Dutch coach landed at Barcelona’s El Prat airport at around 5 pm local time.
He explained, “Koeman, who is still officially the coach of the Netherlands national team, arrived in Barcelona to complete the contract, which will make him technical director of Barcelona for the next two seasons.”
The newspaper revealed that Barcelona is expected to complete the deal within the next few hours, and that it will be presented to the media in the coming days.’
Earlier, the famous Italian journalist, Fabrizio Romano, said that Barcelona had chosen its former player, Ronald Koeman, to take over the team’s training immediately.
Romano and sources close to Barcelona said that Koeman would announce his resignation from his current position as coach of the Dutch national team, before announcing his immediate assumption of the position of coaching Barcelona.
It is noteworthy that Koeman played with Barcelona for six years, between 1989 and 1995, and led the team to achieve the 1992 European Champions League.
In the field of training, Koeman’s experiences varied between failed and successful, as he failed with Valencia in 2008 and with Everton in 2017, but then succeeded in leading the Netherlands team to qualify for the European Cup 2020, with a convincing performance and a strong young squad.
Barcelona had announced the dismissal of its former coach, Quique Setien, after losing 2-8 to Bayern Munich, on Friday evening.
