The Spanish newspaper “Mundo Deportivo” revealed the arrest of former Colombian Real Madrid striker Edwin Congo in Madrid on charges of belonging to a large criminal network active in drug trafficking.
The 43-year-old Congo played for many Spanish teams, led by Real Madrid, Valladolid, and Levante, as well as the French Toulouse.
According to the newspaper, Congo was arrested for participating in the drug smuggling operation, especially cocaine.
The newspaper pointed out that Kongo was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday morning in Madrid with nine other people.
The newspaper pointed out that sources revealed the release of Real Madrid player after he was subjected to investigations in the Central Office for Drug Control, while other sources said that he will continue in the police offices to conduct further investigations.
