Berlin marathon organizers say race will not run as planned in September after Germany banned public gatherings of over 5,000 people until October 24 due to the covid-19 pandemic .
The organizers have not decided whether the race, which saw the last seven world records in the men’s marathon, be delayed or completely canceled.
“We learned from a Senate press conference in Berlin on April 21 that, according to the local containment policy, all events involving more than five thousand people will not be allowed until October 24,” the organizers said in a statement.
“This applies to many of our events, but especially the Berlin Marathon, which cannot be held on time on September 26 and 27,” he added.
The London Marathon, which was due to be held on Sunday, was postponed to October 4 due to the virus that has infected more than 2.5 million people around the world and killed more than 172900 people.
